Trip to Beijing, China, April 2011, part one

Vikki's brother is a lawyer in Beijing for an American law firm that handles American business interests in the far East.  They were kind enough to open their home to us and let us spend a week with them before we left for Seoul, Korea for a few days.  This post is about our time in Beijing.  I'll put up pictures from the Korean leg of the trip next week.

After about 22 hours of three flights and two layovers, we finally made it to Beijing.

The airport, built for the 2008 Olympics, was huge:

This is the scene out the apartment window where we were staying.  We "Scyped" the children midweek to check in on them.  I took the computer to the window so they could see the scene.  I could hear Sean (our 6 year-old) ask, "Is that the BIG wall of China?"

If that was the BIG wall of China, this is the GREAT wall of China:

No one told us just how steep the stairs could be at times:

But getting down from the wall to the valley was a lot of fun!

More to follow tomorrow.

With that in mind, good night.

  1. It was the unevenness of the stairs that surprised me and made it challenging. One step super steep the next one was almost flat. But the toboggan ride down made it worth it! :)
